IPOH: The garbage collection and cleaning services concessionaire has cleared rubbish at a back lane of a row of shops here.

       This was after a video had gone viral, where a person believed to be from a non-governmental organisation, was complaining about the heaps of rubbish found in the drains.

       The site is a back lane situated off Jalan Tahwil Azhar here.

       He said such a dirty environment is the main cause of flash floods in the city centre.

       He blamed the state government for giving out the project to the concessionaire, claiming that they had not been carrying out their duties.

       Ipoh mayor Datuk Rumaizi Baharin said a site inspection had been carried out, and the rubbish was found to be discarded by a contractor carrying out renovation works at one of the shops there.

       “We have instructed them (concessionaire), and they are carrying out cleaning works immediately,” he said.

       A check at the site today (June 22) saw workers cleaning the area.
