KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Bar’s proposal to introduce three laws to deal with hate crimes and speeches relating to race, religion and royalty (3R) should be considered by the government, says Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye.
The Alliance for a Safe Community chairman said the current Sedition Act is outdated and should be replaced with more relevant laws.
“The Malaysian Bar has suggested three new legislations – the Racial and Religious Hate Crime Bill, National Harmony and Reconciliation Bill, and the National Harmony and Reconciliation Commission Bill, which were drafted and forwarded to the government in February.
“I hope the government will give them serious consideration and make the necessary decision to have them implemented,” he said.
