Wes Streeting is facing a backlash from Labour MPs after defending a ban on puberty blockers.
The ban on private prescriptions of the powerful drugs for children, which was introduced by the Tories, had been due to expire at the end of September.

But the Health Secretary is set to renew the ban with a view to making it permanent.
Mr Streeting said: “We don’t yet know the risks of stopping pubertal hormones at this critical life stage. That is the basis upon which I am making decisions.
“I am treading cautiously in this area because the safety of children must come first.”

Don't miss... Labour could make Tories' puberty blocker ban permanent [LATEST]
The landmark Cass Review, which looked at gender identity services for under-18s, found there was "remarkably weak” evidence on such treatments.
However the move has sparked fury from a series of Labour MPs including Stella Creasy, Nadia Whittome, and Zarah Sultana.
Former shadow minister Ms Creasy said: "Cass review recommended caution, not exclusion, for any treatment and drew attention to shortcomings of previous GIDs service.
"To those asking will always be MP who listens to demand for better research & evidence base for help for those with gender dysphoria, not abandons them."

Left-winger Ms Sultana, who represents Coventry South, said her party’s manifesto promised to “remove indignities” for trans people.
She said: "That entails ending the Tories' ban on puberty blockers.
"Young people – cis and trans – must have access to healthcare they need. I'll always stand with the trans community."

Nottingham East MP Ms Whittome added: "Only a small number of young people are prescribed puberty blockers. Those who are often describe them as life-saving.
"I know the distress the puberty blockers ban is causing them.
"No matter what happens in court, I will continue fighting for the government to scrap it."
