On April 25, at 11:00, the Valdai Discussion Club will conduct an expert discussion titled “US-Russian Relations under the Trump Administration: Opportunities and Constraints.” Richard Weitz, Director and Senior Fellow at the Center for Political-Military Analysis, Hudson Institute, will address the main points of the forthcoming Valdai Discussion Club Report of the same name that he is co-authoring with Dmitry Suslov, Programme Director of the Foundation for Development and Support of the Valdai Discussion Club, Deputy Director of the Centre for Comprehensive European and International Studies at the National Research University–Higher School of Economics.

       US–Russian relations have evolved differently than expected after Donald Trump’s inauguration. The first 100 days saw renewed confrontation over Syria, renewed US commitments to NATO and other traditional US alliances, and meetings between Trump and all major world leaders except Russian President Vladimir Putin. What are the prospects of US–Russia relations now? Where and how can the US and Russia cooperate and how should they tackle their differences? Is a “grand bargain” between them plausible? These and other questions will be raised during the discussion.
