KUALA LUMPUR: Daily new cases of Covid-19 in the country continued to drop with 17,828 infections recorded on Monday compared with 19,105 cases the day before.
This brings the cumulative cases to 4,010,952.
Of the 17,828 cases, Health director-general, Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said that 9,121 cases (or 51.16%) involved Category One while 8,551 cases (47.96%) were in Category Two.
“Fifty five cases (0.31%) were in Category Three; 48 cases (0.27%) in Category Four and 53 cases (0.30%) in Category Five,” he said in a statement, as reported by Bernama.
He noted that from the 156 cases in Category Three, Four and Five, 33 cases involved those who were not vaccinated or have not completed their vaccination; 64 cases had received two doses of vaccine but have not obtained their booster shots while 59 cases had been given the booster dose.
Dr Noor Hisham said 28,003 recovery cases were reported on Monday, taking the cumulative recoveries to 3,712,668.
He said 358 cases required treatment at the intensive care unit (ICU) and 199 cases needed respiratory assistance.
He added that five states had critical ICU bed occupancy of more than 50%. They were Kuala Lumpur (63%), Kelantan (58%), Johor (57%), Selangor (57%) and Perak (51%).
On the infectivity rate (Rt) in the country, he said it was still at 0.92 with Sarawak recording the highest at 1.03 followed by Perak with 1.01.
He also said the country logged two new clusters bringing the total clusters to 6,914 with 292 clusters still active.
