Covid-19: Dip in daily cases continues with 22,030 new infections recorded

       PETALING JAYA: Malaysia recorded 22,030 new Covid-19 infections on Monday (March 14), bringing the total number of infections to 3,845,601 since the pandemic began, says the Health Ministry.

       The ministry's CovidNow portal reported that 394 of the new Covid-19 infections were imported cases while the remaining 21,636 cases were local transmissions.

       It also said that 33,872 Covid-19 patients recovered on Monday, bringing the total number of recoveries in Malaysia to 3,502,760 cases since the pandemic began.

       There are currently 308,942 active cases in the country, with 298,123, or 96.5%, observing home quarantine and 2,031, or 0.7%, admitted to low-risk quarantine and treatment facilities.

       A total of 8,400 Covid-19 patients are currently seeking treatment at hospitals nationwide, with 388 warded in intensive care units (ICU). A total of 215 of the ICU admissions require ventilator support while the remaining 173 do not.

       The CovidNow portal also reported that the national ICU utilisation rate stood at 59% on Monday, with four states or localities reporting ICU usage of less than 50% - Kedah at 41.8%, Negri Sembilan (29.9%), Labuan (25%) and Putrajaya (20%).

       Meanwhile, the Health Ministry's GitHub data repository reported that there were 92 Covid-19 deaths reported on Monday, with 33 of these classified as brought-in-dead (BID).

       Kedah recorded the most deaths on Monday with 28 fatalities, 11 of which were BID. This was followed by Johor (15 deaths, 11BID) and Selangor (14 deaths, 4 BID).

       Kuala Lumpur, Labuan and Putrajaya did not record any fatalities on Monday.
