Six elderly residents of the Cottages of Fox Lake Senior Living Community were transported to area hospitals with COVID-like symptoms on Saturday.
The facility’s staff physician made the decision to transport the residents for further evaluation, and they had been placed in isolation. They were all listed Monday in stable condition.
The Fox Lake Fire Protection District received a service call at approximately 5:30 p.m. Saturday, “for a sick person” and dispatched one ambulance to the 16 Lilac Avenue campus. Upon arrival, the emergency personnel were met by staff personnel and told there were actually six patients.

The district activated the Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS) for additional equipment assistance, according to a district statement.
Ambulances from Round Lake, Grayslake, Lake Villa, and Spring Grove responded, along with change of quarters assists that included Richmond Fire Protection District Chief Henry Gruba, a Woodstock ambulance and a McHenry fire engine.

“They were in stable condition, but tested positive for COVID-19, and their physician recommended moving them to local hospitals,” said Ed Lescher, the district’s public information officer. “There were a total of six ambulance transports, three made by MABAS group members, and three made by ourselves.”
The six seniors were taken to Northwestern Medicine Hospital in McHenry, Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington and Condell Hospital in Libertyville. Names of the patients were not released.
The Cottages of Fox Lake is a chartered senior living community, opened in 2005, with assisted living and long-term memory care. The facility’s website states, “each of the four assisted living (cottages) caters to only sixteen residents.”
