A convicted sex offender attempted to lure a North Carolina boy to his Lake Bluff-area home and even emailed a bus ticket to the child, the Lake County sheriff’s office said Monday.
Jason M. Silsdorf, 36, of the 500 block of Rockland Road, was charged after police conducted a search warrant at his residence, authorities said.
Lake County authorities said they were contacted earlier this year by police in Cumberland County in North Carolina after parents of a 12-year-old boy reported communications between their son and Silsdorf.
Police said Silsdorf had made arrangements for the boy to travel to meet in Lake Bluff, and had emailed a bus ticket to the youth. He also sent the boy messages over Tik Tok, which police say violated his sex offender registry conditions.
As a consequence of a 2016 sex crime conviction, Silsdorf is required to disclose all social media accounts and personal telephone numbers, police said.

During the search, police seized several electronics items which they said will be examined. Silsdorf remained in jail in lieu of $3 million bail, pending an initial court hearing.
He has been charged with unlawful failure of a sexual offender to report an internet site, authorities said.
In a statement released Monday, Sheriff John Idleburg said the case is a reminder of the importance of parents monitoring the online activities of their children.
