PETALING JAYA: A bedridden octogenarian was all smiles as she successfully received her Covid-19 vaccine with the help of a team of Civil Defence Force personnel and several volunteers.
Known only as Madam Kong, the 87-year-old is unable to walk and lives in an apartment in Equine Park, Seri Kembangan, with her daughter.
“We stay on the second floor and there is no way I can help my mum go for her vaccination appointment alone.
“My brothers live in Kuala Kangsar (Perak), Kuantan (Pahang) and the one in Semenyih could not come at such short notice.
“I realised I needed help. So I made some inquiries," said Kong’s daughter, who only wanted to be known as Miss Liew.
Upon learning of the mother and daughter’s plight, Puchong MCA immediately took up the case and swung into action, making arrangements and guiding Liew along the way.
With the help of a Civil Defence Force ambulance, Kong was eventually sent to the Covid-19 vaccination centre (PPV) at the Mines International Exhibition and Convention Centre (MIECC) at 9.10am on Wednesday (July 7).
The PPV management also swiftly arranged for her vaccination process, which saw her getting her first jab less than 30 minutes after arriving.
Liew said she was thankful to Puchong MCA, especially its public affairs bureau chief Wong Jung Lik and new media bureau chief Soon Mon Huay, for their “patience and prompt action” while lending a hand and guiding her in getting help for her mother.
Wong said Puchong MCA got to work immediately after understanding the mother and daughter’s situation.
“We made some plans and managed to help Madam Kong to get her vaccination on schedule. We thank the Civil Defence Force and MIECC teams for their help in making this successful,” he said.
Soon also thanked the Special Committee on Covid-19 Vaccine Supply (JKJAV) for helping the people in Seri Kembangan and Puchong by speeding up the vaccination programme.
He also urged the public to sign up for vaccination.
“Do not give up even if you have a problem. Mdm Kong’s case is a good example. We will try our best to help,” he added.
