A police cordon was in place at Tatton Road in Sale, in Trafford, Greater Manchester earlier today. According to Manchester Evening News, the cordon was thought to be related to a "suspicious device".

       A bomb squad was deployed to the scene to deal with the incident, where a 100m cordon was in place.

       Steve Robson, a senior news reporter for the publication tweeted about the cordon at 4.26pm today.

       He wrote: "I’m at Tatton Road in Sale where police have a police cordon is in place.

       "I understand it’s related to a suspicious device and the bomb squad are on route to deal with it."

       Greater Manchester Police have since confirmed that they were called to reports of "bones and a suspected grenade" found at a building located on Tatton Road.

       The force said: "We were called at 11.30am today to a report of bones found at a premises on Tatton Road in Sale.

       "Officers attended and later found a suspected grenade in the same premises.

       "A cordon has been put in place and EOD are due to attend."

       They added: "The bones have been recovered and will be forensically examined to establish what they are.

       "Road closures are currently in place and some properties have been evacuated as a precaution.”

       Reportedly properties located behind the cordon have been evacuated as a security measure.

       Among those evacuated were hospitality venues include a Slug and Lettuce bar and The Railway pub.

       Mr Robson noted that residents had been advised to go to Sale Leisure centre, which is located nearby.

       At 4.46pm, a bomb squad arrived at the scene on Tatton Road in Sale to investigate the "suspected grenade" uncovered by Greater Manchester Police.

       At 5.16pm, the squad reportedly left the scene and the cordon in the area was removed.

       Mr Robson reported that he believed the "suspicious device" was located in Sale Masonic Hall.

       A previous application to demolish the building and replace it with affordable housing was refused by Trafford Council in June.

       Soldiers from the Royal Logistics Corp were witnessed entering the building around 5pm.
