PETALING JAYA: A total of 207 fatalities were recorded, the highest since the pandemic began last year.

This takes the death toll to 8,201, said Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah in a statement on Monday (July 26)

He said Selangor had the most deaths with 57, followed by Kuala Lumpur (52), Johor (24), Kedah (19), Melaka (18), Negri Sembilan (14), Pahang (seven), Sabah (six), Perak (five), Penang (three), and Terengganu (two).

Of the total deaths, 160 were linked to comorbidities while 14 were "brought-in-dead".

A total of 14,516 new Covid-19 cases were reported of which three were imported cases while 14,513 were local cases.

This brings the cumulative number of cases to 1,027,954.

"Overall, 1.8% of cases reported today were in categories 3 to 5 with 84% having no history of vaccination, while 98.2% of cases were in categories 1 and 2.

"It was found that the vast majority of newly-diagnosed Covid-19 cases (92% of total cases) had no history of vaccination," Dr Noor Hisham said, urging the public to get vaccinated immediately.

"Category 1 and 2 cases are low-risk and allowed to home quarantine.

"This can help reduce congestion at Covid-19 Quarantine and Treatment Centres (PKRCs) and hospitals, especially in the Klang Valley.

"Category 3 to 5 cases will be admitted to PKRCs, hospital wards and intensive care units (ICU) at hospitals," he added.

Dr Noor Hisham also said 1,009 patients were being treated at the ICUs with 524 requiring ventilator support.

He added that 33 new clusters were reported with 21 linked to the workplace.

The remaining new clusters stemmed from community and education institutions, bringing the active clusters to 1,005.

MOH added that based on the latest data on Sunday (July 25), the infectivity rate (R0 or R-nought) in Malaysia is 1.15.

"The states that recorded the highest R0 value were Terengganu (1.36) followed by Kedah (1.26) and Sabah (1.24).

"All states recorded R0s above 1.0 except the Federal Territory of Labuan and Perlis," Dr Noor Hisham said.
