PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia’s Covid-19 death toll has now reached 12,784 after 274 more people died from the disease.
In his daily Covid-19 statement on Monday (Aug 16), Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said of the total fatalities, 211 of them were Malaysians, while 63 were foreigners.
There are also 77 deaths that have been classified as brought-in-dead cases.
This included 49 foreigners.
Dr Noor Hisham said 201 or 73% of those who died had some form of comorbidities.
Selangor had the most deaths with 100 fatalities, followed by Kuala Lumpur with 39.
On Monday, Malaysia reported 19,740 new Covid-19 cases, bringing the national tally to 1,424,639.
Dr Noor Hisham also said 98.5% or 19,442 cases were either mild or asymptomatic cases.
The remaining 1.5% (298 cases) are those in Category 3, 4 and 5.
He said 85.13% of the cases involved individuals who have not been vaccinated or yet to complete the doses.
There are now 249,277 active Covid-19 cases nationwide.
This includes 1,047 patients in intensive care units with 520 of them on ventilator support.
The Health Ministry also detected 35 new clusters across the country.
A total of 21 clusters involved the workplace with 658 cases linked to them.
There are also 11 community outbreaks which resulted in 181 confirmed infections.
Nationwide, there are 1,339 active clusters.
