NAHA -- The U.S. Marines stationed in Okinawa Prefecture announced on Dec. 17 that several members that have newly arrived at Marine Corps Camp Hansen from outside the island prefecture have been confirmed to have the coronavirus.
According to the prefectural government's announcement, since Dec. 9 a total of 31 infections have been confirmed at the base in central Okinawa Prefecture. Authorities have not disclosed whether the cases included the omicron variant.
The Marines that have tested positive have been placed under quarantine, and reportedly have not come in contact with residents outside the base.
