KUCHING: They are both in their 30s and fathers to three children, and have been spotted wearing Spider-Man costumes – one selling beef noodles at a bus stop at the Serian Bazaar and the other at a Covid-19 vaccination centre (PPV) at the Kozi Square Commercial Centre here.
Chua Yong Seng, 39, said life had been very hard for his family since the Covid-19 pandemic began.
With his restaurant business hit hard by the pandemic, he now sells beef noodles at a temporary stall at a bus stop adjacent to Serian Hospital from 10am to 2pm to make ends meet for his family.
Asked why he chose to wear a Spider-Man suit, Chua said he felt that it was a good way to attract customers to his stall.
“I prepare all the ingredients, cook the beef noodles myself and sell them for RM8 each. I also give my customers a bottle of free mineral water,” he added.
Chua said he had been operating his stall for the past three days and was able to earn RM100 to RM200 a day.
“I really hope this pandemic will be over soon so that life can return to normal,” he said.Meanwhile, there was excitement at the Kozi Square Commercial Centre PPV when another Spider-Man was spotted getting vaccinated.
Mohd Syah Nizam Rajap, from Kampung Sindang in Kota Samarahan, was the centre of attention when he arrived for his vaccination appointment. Photos of him in his costume have since gone viral.
“I’m a big fan of Marvel Comics superheroes. I wore the Spider-Man costume because I wanted to bring some joy to the frontliners and volunteers at the PPV,” said the 32-year-old.Mohd Syah added that he wanted to encourage more people to get vaccinated.
“Spider-Man’s job is to make people feel safe. I have done my part, so do get vaccinated. There is nothing to be afraid of. It is safe and important to protect everyone against Covid-19,” he said.
Mohd Syah, who works as an assistant officer at Tabung Baitulmal Sarawak, said he planned to dress up as Iron Man for his next vaccination appointment. — Bernama
