No follow-up on elderly couple under home isolation

AN elderly couple who quarantined themselves at home after contracting Covid-19 was left confused and angry when they were photographed daily by the police but did not receive any follow-up from health authorities, Makkal Osai reported.

       M. Subramaniam, from Mambang Di Awan in Perak, said he, his wife, their daughter-in-law and a grandchild were confirmed positive after attending a funeral in Kuala Lumpur.

The daughter-in-law and grandchild were admitted to Hospital Batu Gajah while he and his wife were told to quarantine at home.

There was no monitoring or follow-up by the hospital or local health authorities but police officers turned up daily at their home to photograph them as evidence of their home quarantine, which left them feeling like criminals, said Subramaniam.

Meanwhile, their son, daughter and two other grandchildren who were negative were put up in an isolation centre in Tambun to avoid infection.

Subramaniam claimed that his daughter and two grandchildren later tested positive after their stay at the centre, and he raised questions about safety and the standard operating procedure.

He said the state government and all agencies involved must improve the SOP and ensure they do not cause further infections or distress to the people.
