KOTA KINABALU: A new Covid-19 cluster involving the crew of a naval vessel contributed more than 90 cases to Sabah's daily statistics for Monday (Nov 22).
State Covid-19 spokesman Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun (pix) said the Lautan Biru Pantai cluster has 93 confirmed cases to date, with 91 cases registered on Monday.
"Sabah recorded an increase of 48 cases on Monday (over Sunday), recording 485 new infections.
"There was a sudden spike of cases in the Kota Kinabalu district (161 cases on Monday against 98 the previous day), due to the new cluster involving the Royal Malaysian Navy personnel.
"Infections under the cluster spread during sea operations," he said.
The new cluster accounted for approximately 19% of the total new cases on Monday, he added.
However, Masidi said 97% of these cases, or 469 patients, are under categories one and two, are asymptomatic or have mild infections which do not require hospitalisation.
