Police helicopter searching for man with crossbow in Plymouth

       A huge land and air search was launched on Wednesday after a man with a crossbow was reported wandering the streets of Plymouth. Devon and Cornwall Police officers were seen in an area outside Salisbury Road Primary School.

       An eyewitness told Plymouth Live: "There are armed police stationed outside the school, four coppers in one car."

       The emergency services were called at 2.30pm.

       Police were also at the Beaumont Park area of the city.

       A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesperson said: "Police were called at 2.30pm to Beaumont Park, Plymouth, following a report of a man in possession of a crossbow. No threats were reported to have been made."

       They added that armed officers attended and searched the area, but have not located anyone matching the description.

       The spokesperson said enquiries were ongoing.
