A woman was killed Friday while crossing Georgia Avenue in Montgomery County, Md., the police said.

       The woman was crossing from east to west in a marked crosswalk at Mason Street in the Wheaton/Glenmont area about 8:20 a.m. when she was struck by a car going south on Georgia, the police said.

       She was taken to a hospital, where she died of her injuries, they said.

       The woman was a 50-year-old resident of Silver Spring, the police said. Police said they were withholding her name until relatives could be notified.

       They said an investigation was underway.
