KOTA KINABALU: Villagers and civil defence members have managed to capture a large crocodile that had been prowling over the last few days in a village in Papar district about 50km from here.
A Civil Defence Department spokesman said the 4.8m crocodile weighing 700kg was captured with the help of villagers at Kampung Nahapas at about 9pm on Monday.
The civil defence was called in after a villager informed them that the crocodile had been spotted.
The crocodile has been handed over to the Wildlife Rescue Unit.
Images of the crocodile were shared on social media and went viral over the last few days.
Also going viral was a video of a python seen slithering through a monsoon drain at an industrial area in Inanam here.
Wildlife officials believe that it could have been displaced by the floods.
