ALOR SETAR: Kedah health and local government committee chairman Datuk Dr Mohd Hayati Othman has tested positive for Covid-19.

       He said he had been suffering a fever and cough since Aug 22 and was confirmed positive on Thursday (Aug 26) after a test on Wednesday (Aug 25).

       He said he had been involved in aid missions in affected areas following the flood disaster at the foot of Gunung Jerai, Yan, on Aug 18.

       "My members and I always ensure that standard operating procedures (SOP) are followed strictly, such as wearing face masks at all times and eating separately.

       "I'm not sure if I caught the virus from the Yan area because after returning from the programme on Saturday (Aug 21), I started coughing and had a fever the next day.

       "After that, I wore a pink bracelet and a Health Department officer contacted me on Thursday and informed me that I tested positive," he said.

       Dr Mohd Hayati added that he was a Category Two patient and would undergo quarantine at home.

       He said that his health was improving and that his oxygen level was between 96% and 97%.

       "I will be undergoing quarantine for 10 days.

       "I urge all parties – especially the teams carrying out aid missions at the flood site – to always comply with the SOPs," he said.
