PETALING JAYA: Malaysia reported 12,017 new Covid-19 infections on Tuesday (April 5), bringing the cumulative number of cases in the country to 4,268,486 since the pandemic began.
The Health Ministry's CovidNow portal reported that 11,958 of the new cases were local transmissions while there were 59 imported infections.
The portal also reported that recoveries continue to outpace new infections, with 20,431 individuals recovering from Covid-19 on Tuesday.
The cumulative total number of recoveries in Malaysia now stands at 4,062,154 since the pandemic began.
Meanwhile, the ministry's GitHub data repository reported that there were 33 deaths due to Covid-19 on Tuesday, of which 10 were classified as brought-in-dead.
This brings the cumulative number of deaths due to Covid-19 to 35,160 since the pandemic began. This includes 7,425 BID cases.
The CovidNow portal also reported that there were 17,172 active Covid-19 infections in the country as at 11.59pm on Tuesday.
A total of 167,130 individuals, 97.6% of those infected, are observing home quarantine while 385 people, or 0.2%, are being treated at low-risk quarantine and treatment centres nationwide.
Only 2.0%, or 3,423 people, have been hospitalised, while 234 individuals, or 0.2%, are being treated at intensive care units (ICU), with 131 requiring ventilator support.
CovidNow also said that the current ICU utilisation rate specifically for Covid-19 cases stands at 26.7% nationwide.
