AMPANG: Satellite images will be used to help determine the cause of the landslide in Kemensah Heights, says Deputy Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk Ahmad Amzad Hashim.

He said satellite images taken before and after the incident would be compared in an effort to figure out the cause of the landslide on Friday (Sept 17) night.

“The images can help identify if there were any early indications prior to the incident.

“This could also hopefully help prevent similar incidents in the future,” he said after a site visit on Monday (Sept 20) morning.

He added that the ministry was able to provide technological support services for risk monitoring of hill slope developments through the Malaysian Space Agency (MySA).

“MySA uses remote sensing technology and analysis to carry out landslide risk mapping in Selangor, which can be used as a guide by local authorities especially for monitoring high-risk areas,” he said

He added that MySA had previously collaborated with the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) to develop the E-Slope system which monitors slopes within MPAJ’s jurisdiction.

The landslide affected three bungalows and 12 townhouses involving 27 families.

Some 103 residents in Jalan Kemensah Heights were evacuated following the incident.
