PUTRAJAYA: Another 211 people have succumbed to Covid-19, with 41 fatalities reported in Johor alone.
This is the second day in a row that Johor has the most number of Covid-19 daily deaths in the country.
This is followed by Selangor with 36 deaths, Kedah (32), Penang (23), Sabah (17), Perak (16), Negri Sembilan (12), Kuala Lumpur (10), Pahang (nine), Terengganu (five), Kelantan (three), Melaka (three), Sarawak (two) and Perlis (two).
In his daily Covid-19 statement, Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said 24 of the 211 deaths were foreign nationals, bringing the death toll to 14,553.
The fatalities also include 40 cases classified as “brought-in-dead” - which involves 26 Malaysians and 14 foreigners.
Penang has the highest number of BID cases (11), followed by Johor (10) and Sabah (eight).
Currently, the country has 1,063 patients under intensive care with 511 on breathing assistance.
Nationwide, there are 262,713 active cases.
On Tuesday (Aug 24), the country reported 20,837 new Covid-19 cases - taking the cumulative total to nearly 1.6 million.
Dr Noor Hisham said 20,479 of Tuesday’s cases (98.3%) are either mild or asymptomatic infections.
Only 358 cases or 1.7% are those in Category 3, 4 and 5.
Overall, 81.3% of the cases involve those who either have not completed their vaccination dosage or are unvaccinated.
The ministry has also identified 34 new Covid-19 clusters nationwide.
This takes the number of active ones to 1,446.
Of the 34 new clusters, 22 are workplace-related outbreaks, with 786 confirmed cases.
There are also nine community clusters involving at least 216 cases.
