KOTA KINABALU: Repairs of the damaged pipe at the Kogopon water treatment plant in the Papar district were completed on Wednesday.

On this, Papar district disaster management committee chairman Mohd Fuad Abdullah said that the plant is back at its full capacity of supplying 40 million litres per day (MLD) of water.

Last February, one of the three pipes at the water plant burst, affecting its capacity by 5MLD.

The delay in fixing the pipe was due to the replacement materials which needed to be ordered.

In other developments, Mohd Fuad said the Malaysian Red Crescent (MRC) managed to treat and provide 6,360 litres of clean water on Wednesday through its Water Sanitation and Hygiene (Wash) method sourced from Sungai Papar-Mandalipau.

“Upon water samples deliberation by the district Water Department, the treated water met the standards and was deemed safe for use,” he said, adding that the supply was meant for distribution to residents in need.

Mohd Fuad said that the clean water supply delivery operation on Wednesday covered 18 localities across the district, with 11 lorries rented by the disaster operation control centre (PKOB), 15 lorries from government agencies and six lorries from volunteers.
