Ronisha Preckwinkle, the estranged daughter-in-law of Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle, is accused in the killing of a woman in Georgia, authorities said.

Ronisha Preckwinkle is charged with murder, tampering with evidence and false imprisonment in connection with the death of Mirsha Victor, 23, in suburban Atlanta, according to a clerk with Henry County magistrate court. Victor went missing on July 8 and her body was found July 19, officials have said.

Toni Preckwinkle declined to comment; her son, Kyle, to whom Ronisha Preckwinkle is married, could not be reached.

Dennis Lane, 41, also is charged in the case. Lane was convicted in 2000 of predatory criminal sexual assault in Kankakee County, for which he was sentenced to 20 years, according to the Illinois Department of Corrections. He was paroled in 2019.

Lane allegedly called Victor’s mother via Victor’s cellphone to request an in-person meeting in order to explain “he was not a bad guy” since “everyone was blaming him for Miss Victor being missing,” according to a police report.

The report says police then were called to accompany Victor’s mother to Lane’s residence. A detective who responded noticed a bloodstained mattress on top of a dumpster across the street.

Henry County detectives later executed a search warrant at the residence, according to the report. They found blood on the floor and in the bathroom and a mattress missing.

Reached this week, police in Henry County declined to comment beyond the initial report, citing the ongoing investigation.

Preckwinkle is expected to appear in court for a preliminary hearing Sept. 2.
