PETALING JAYA: It was a special dinner reception, organised in conjunction with Malaysia Day by the High Commission of Malaysia in London, that Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong attended recently.

It also marked Malaysia's 50th anniversary in the International Maritime Organisation (IMO).

“Tonight, we spent some time with our fellow Malaysians for a Malaysia Day celebration at the High Commission.

“Thank you to Malaysian Ambassador to the UK His Excellency Zakri Jaafar and the High Commission staff for organising not one, but two events today, one for Malaysia's 50th anniversary in the IMO and now for the Malaysia Day celebration,” the Transport Minister, in the United Kingdom for a working visit, said in a Facebook post Wednesday (Oct 20).

The UK’s Gloucester MP Richard Graham was also present at the dinner reception.

In his speech, Dr Wee spoke about the government’s direction following the Prime Minister's tabling of the 12th Malaysia Plan last month, including several transport infrastructure projects.

The MCA president also took the opportunity to explain that the ministry had never introduced any policy to coerce senior citizens above a certain age to surrender their driving licences.

“Rather, under the law, anyone can voluntarily surrender their Malaysian driving licences for health reasons,” he added.
