Sky Bridge project with a 'dead end' to resolve in six months

KOTA KINABALU: The multi-million ringgit Sky Bridge in the city centre which has a dead end, is expected to be resolved within six months, says the City Hall.

Mayor Noorliza Awang Alip said the Centre Point Mall had in an earlier agreement said they were interested in constructing the opening and to bear the cost.

“In the agreement, the mall said they will start construction of the entrance that links the bridge within six months starting from the completion of the bridge,” she said in a statement on Friday (Sept 10).

The bridge with a dead end was the subject of ridicule by Internet users when it was launched by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor earlier this week.

Many had questioned the basis behind the dead end when the government held a launching ceremony prior to the opening being built and ready for the public.

The mall’s management has yet to issue an official statement on the matter.

This RM31.5mil project is a 440m Sky Bridge equipped with escalators, an elevator for the disabled and 20 kiosks connecting Asia City, Api-Api Commercial Centre, Warisan Square and Oceanus Mall, among other facilities.

Construction of the bridge started in April 2017 but was halted in between due to financial constraints and was only completed this year and opened to the public officially on Sept 9.
