‘Resolute’ Queen Elizabeth Jubilee statue to bring ‘celebration’ after the pandemic

The statue has been designed by a member of the Minister’s Stoneyard team in York and will commemorate Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022 - marking Her Majesty’s 70 year reign on the British throne. Once completed the statue will be placed on the West Front of the 800 year-old cathedral in the city of York.

Richard Bossons, who has been a member of the Minister’s Stoneyard team since 2011, revealed the new designs for the statue earlier this week.

The design shows the Queen in Garter robes with an orb and sceptre.

She will also be wearing the George IV State Diadem.

Mr Bossons told the BBC: "The statue needs to be part of the fabric, not a distraction from it, yet it also has to have the poise and presence befitting of the Queen's unique role.”

??"She will stand proud and resolute in her niche, welcoming worshippers and visitors alike.”

He went on to tell the Yorkshire Post: “There have been several challenges to overcome with this project in terms of the design.

“First and foremost I have to complement the magnificent medieval fa?ade of the Minster.

"The statue needs to be part of the fabric, not a distraction from it, yet it also has to have the poise and presence befitting of the Queen’s unique role as Head of Church and State.”

York Minster’s Twitter account said: "We're delighted to be able to share some images showing the on-going work behind the creation of the new statue of Her Majesty The Queen, set to be installed in summer '22.

"Designer & carver Richard Bossons showcasing his incredible skill."

The statue is expected to stand at 6feet and 7inches, a whole four inches taller than the Queen’s second oldest grandson Prince William.

Dr Jonathan Frost, the Dean of York, has said he hoped the statue would "inspire the city and be a cause for celebration as we recover from the pandemic".

Throughout 2022, members of the Royal Family will travel across the United Kingdom to engage with members of the public.

On June 2nd, over 1,400 parading soldiers, 200 horses and 400 musicians will come together to Troop the Colour.

The Queen’s most recent Jubilee year, the Sapphire Jubilee of 2017, was not celebrated widely by the public.

However, in 2012, when her Majesty was celebrating 60 years on the throne, the Queen visited more than 50 locations across the United Kingdom.
