Armed Forces deployed, more companies on standby

       KUALA LUMPUR: The Armed Forces has activated Ops Murni focusing on flood-hit areas in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Pahang, Melaka, Negri Sembilan, Perak, Terengganu and Kelantan.

       Armed Forces chief Jeneral Tan Sri Affendi Buang said a total of 63 officers and 856 personnel have been deployed for flood relief efforts.

       “They are deployed for various relief efforts including assisting in saving and relocating flood victims as well as distributing food aid.

       “We have also mobilised military assets such as trucks, land rovers, boats and air assets,” he said in a statement.

       The Armed Forces is ready with the strength of one company consisting of five officers and 97 personnel who have been placed on standby at each state, he added.

       “They can be deployed to flood-hit areas when additional manpower is needed.

       “We are always ready to deploy personnel and assets to disrupted areas as well as to assist local authorities and other agencies for flood operations,” he said.

       Jen Affendi also said the Armed Forces is committed to assisting local authorities to save victims affected by the floods, especially in relocating them to safer areas.
