A 6-year-old Joliet girl was killed after police said an intoxicated driver ran a stop sign and crashed into the car she was riding in.

       Michael Kubistal, 34, of Joliet, was driving a Nissan Altima and disregarded a stop sign, crashing into the driver’s side of a Chevy Malibu around 11:50 a.m. Tuesday morning at Route 126 and Grove Road in Kendall County, Illinois State Police said.

       The driver of the Malibu, Amme Hicks, 29, of Joliet, was airlifted to a hospital with life-threatening injuries from the crash while her 6-year-old passenger Lily Hicks was ejected after the cars collided, police said.

       Lily Hicks was taken to Loyola Medical Center in Maywood, where she died, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

       Kubistal was charged with driving under the influence of drugs, possession of marijuana, disobeying a stop sign, operating an uninsured motor vehicle and failing to reduce speed to avoid an accident, state police said. He was also later charged with four counts of felony aggravated driving under the influence resulting in death, Kendall County court records show.

       Kubistal was taken to a local hospital and his injuries are not life-threatening, police said. He was booked in the Kendall County Jail Wednesday morning, where records list him living at an Oswego address. Kubistal could not be reached for comment.

       He is due back in court Aug. 4.
