KOTA KINABALU: Adults who think that they can simply cut across districts despite not being fully vaccinated against Covid-19 should think again. The police said that even though most roadblocks had been removed, there were still traffic cops conducting checks, especially at district borders.

A specialised team of policemen will also be conducting random inspections statewide to prevent those who are not allowed to travel out of their districts from doing so.

Sabah Public Safety Department chief Asst Comm Khalid Saion said more than 300 teams would be going around to monitor and conduct random checks at public areas statewide, including restaurants and shopping malls.

“Those who are not allowed to travel will face legal action,” Asst Comm Khalid said, adding that a fine would also be issued to the offenders.

He said enforcement teams would also be going around to ensure that all the standard operating procedures were adhered to in public areas.

On Wednesday, Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor announced that fully inoculated adults would no longer be restricted to zones and that they were allowed to travel anywhere within the state beginning yesterday.

He also said interstate travel would also be allowed from Nov 1 onwards as long as the people met the requirements.

The relaxation is only applicable for fully vaccinated adults, teenagers aged between 12 and 18 who have received at least one dose of a Covid-19 vaccine and children under 12 who are accompanied by fully vaccinated parents.

Entry into Sabah for social and travel purposes is allowed on the condition that the individual has been fully vaccinated and a swab or saliva test taken three days before travel.

Previously, Sabah only allowed people to travel within their own designated zones with at least six districts categorised as stand-alones because the vaccination rate had yet to reach the 60% mark.
