JOHOR BARU: Police have detained two lorry drivers for transporting diesel without valid permits at two separate locations on Wednesday (April 13).
Southern Region Two Marine Police commander Asst Comm Muhd Zailani Abdullah said the suspects were detained at two petrol stations in Skudai.
He said the drivers, aged 28 and 56, were apprehended while refuelling at the two stations between 2.30am and 2.45am.
“During the raid, the two men were filling about 2,000 and 3,167 litres of diesel into a modified tank (on their respective vehicles)," ACP Muhd Zailani said in a statement.
He said the operation was conducted following intelligence gathering and a tip-off about suspicious activities in the area.
ACP Muhd Zailani said both suspects failed to produce any valid documents from the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry allowing them to transport controlled items.
“The total value of the diesel seized was estimated at RM176,539,and the case is being investigated under the Control of Supplies Act 1961," he said, adding that both suspects were taken to state police headquarters for further action.
