KUCHING: Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB)’s recent move to set up a new wing for those aged between 18 and 28 will support a positive outcome in the coming 15th general election (GE15) which will be held by 2023 or earlier, says Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah (pic).

       The PBB vice-president said the move, which was announced by the party president and Sarawak Chief Minister Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, would augur well for the party’s continuous efforts to prepare the young group to be politically conscious to decide their future.

       "PBB is taking the necessary steps right now in order to stay relevant among all strata of the society including the members from different age groups,” he said in a statement on Wednesday (Jan 12).

       He said it is also a good strategy to reach out to the new group of voters especially the young ones who must attain political maturity and to make PBB more relevant in the present political climate where the latest developments are of the people’s interest.

       "The Undi18 constitutional amendments had shown us that the participation of young people in the local political scene is most welcomed and its implementation supports PBB’s leadership talent grooming and development agenda,” he added.

       In announcing the formation of the new wing at a press conference after chairing PBB’s supreme council meeting Sunday (Jan 9) night, Abang Johari said the wing would give those in the age group the opportunity to serve for the well-being of the state.

       He said a committee had been formed to work out the details for the establishment of the wing and an amendment to the party’s constitution would be made at its triennial general meeting in June for its formation.

       "We are creating this wing because we want them to be together with us in managing the community. PBB is a dynamic party. We also listen to the aspirations of the young and we will adjust ourselves according to the current political situation,” he added.- Bernama
