JOHOR BARU: A total of 22 foreigners here have been issued summons by the police for several traffic violations, including using illegally-modified three-wheeled motorcycles.
Johor Baru North OCPD Asst Comm Rupiah Abd Wahid said that the modified motorcycles used by the Rohingya refugees were also seized following an operation at about 8.30am on Monday (May 23).
"They were using the modified motorcycles to ferry used goods to be sold at recycling shops around the area.
"They were riding their vehicles dangerously and causing a disturbance to other road users," she said in a statement on Tuesday (May 24).
She said that a total of 54 summonses were issued to the motorcycle riders for various offences.
"We issued 22 summonses under Section 26(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for driving without a licence and 10 summonses were issued under Section 90 of the same Act for not having insurance.
"Another 22 summonses were issued for modifying the vehicles," she added.
ACP Rupiah also urged the public to adhere to road regulations for the safety of all road users.
