SHAH ALAM: The Selangor government has no plans yet to dissolve the state assembly to make way for a snap election, says Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari (pic).

The Selangor PKR chairman said discussions held between leaders in the state agreed that the administration should serve its full term.

“We are in agreement that the present state government should continue until May next year. However, this is only my own opinion as a mentri besar, who can only propose.

“The decision to dissolve a state assembly lies with the state Ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah,” he said when met at the state secretariat building on Wednesday (March 16).

The Sungai Tua assemblyman said the continuation of the present administration was crucial to ensure the plans that were in the pipeline could be carried out.

“Many initiatives by the state government were delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Now is not the right time for a state election. My advice to the Umno president (Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi) is to be patient,” he said.

Rumours gained momentum of a snap election being called at the federal level after Barisan Nasional won the Johor state election, securing 40 out 56 state seats.

The Negri Sembilan, Kelantan, Terengganu and Kedah state governments have indicated that they would not dissolve their state assemblies.
