KUALA LUMPUR: The men in blue say no to corruption.
Despite a bribe of RM21,000, two police officers held their ground and refused the money.
In a statement yesterday, Sentul OCPD Asst Comm Beh Eng Lai said the bribe came about following the arrest of a 24-year-old man near Jalan Ipoh for allegedly distributing drugs, on Aug 12.
“We found 13 plastic bags containing around 168.66g of suspected methamphetamine and three bags of suspected heroin (2.92g) with an estimated value of RM16,968.20.
“At around 12.30am on Aug 13, the suspect’s 22-year-old fiancee offered RM21,000 to Insp Liaw Ken Yeh and detective Sjn Zulkifli Nordin as a bribe to release the suspect, who was in remand. She was warned but she refused to withdraw the offer, which led to her arrest for bribing a police officer,” he said.ACP Beh said the woman and the bribe money have been handed over to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for further action.
“I am very proud of my men who were exemplary in rejecting the bribe. Hopefully this will enhance public confidence towards the integrity of the force and (encourage others to) voluntarily come forward to collaborate in drugs and crime suppression,” he said.
