IPOH: Owners and workers of orchards and plantations can cross districts to tend to their produce.

Ipoh OCPD Asst Comm Yahaya Hassan said owners or workers would need to apply for a permit under the second phase of the National Recovery Plan (NRP).

“We can allow it as their produce may go bad.

“They will also need to show proof that they are going to their farms to work,” he told reporters after distributing food boxes to seven people during a simple ceremony at the district police patrol and transport depot here yesterday.

“As long as it is reasonable, we will allow it. We do not want to make life hard for them,” he added.

ACP Yahaya had been asked on whether durian orchard owners would be allowed to cross districts to tend to their fruits during the current durian season.

Perak, along with several other states, is now in the second phase of the NRP.

Separately, ACP Yahaya warned folk not to take advantage of the current SOP under the NRP to gather with friends at public parks.

“I understand that those who have stayed home might long to meet with their friends at the park but this is not allowed,” he said.

The police, he said, would continue to monitor the public, including business premises and factories, on adhering to standard operating procedure.

“Physical distancing must be in place and SOP respected,” he said.

Under the second phase, fitness and recreational activities that do not involve physical contact are once again allowed.

They include jogging, tai chi, cycling, skateboarding, fishing, archery, climbing, tennis (single), golf and motorsports.

Physical distance of two to three metres must be observed at all times.

The activities are allowed in open areas or outdoors within 10km of one’s home from 6am to 8pm.

He was responding to a question that policemen were seen telling people at the Sultan Abdul Aziz Recreational Park (Polo Ground) here to go home yesterday morning.
