A SPECIAL effects supervisor was seriously injured during the filming of Hong Kong action flick White Storm 3 when a prop car fell on him, Sin Chew Daily reported.

Chen Weiqiang, 56, was supervising a scene involving a car crash at Hong Kong’s Tsing Yi’s dockyard on Sunday when the accident happened.

Chen had four prop vehicles which had their engines removed, stacked at an angle, ready for the scene shoot.

One of the cars, a seven-seater, flipped over and pinned Chen to the ground, causing his rib cage to crack.

Chen was sent to a hospital and was at one point in danger of losing his life.

He is no longer critical but is required to remain under hospital care, said the bosses at Universe Entertainment and Culture Group Company Limited.

White Storm 3 is a sequel to the 2019 The White Storm 2: Drug Lords.

Apparently, its production incurred an extra HK$10mil (RM5.4mil) when a new film set had to be built after plans to shoot the production in Thailand were scrapped due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The film features actors Aaron Kwok, Louis Koo and Sean Lau.

       > The pandemic has increased the rate of dropouts among students from poorer families, according to the National Union of Teaching Profession (NUTP).

China Press, quoting NUTP secretary-general Wang Heng Suan, said there were no statistics on this but anecdotal evidence from teachers showed that many students had to give up their studies to help their families make ends meet.

“I would ask parents whenever their children are absent from online classes. They would get annoyed when I pressed them further,” he said.

He noted that students from poorer families could not afford to buy multiple devices for their children to attend these classes.

Those with many siblings would have to share one device, which causes them to fall behind in their studies, Wang said.

Wang said that the union, school boards as well as their respective Parent-Teachers Associations have tried their best to help such students.
