‘Apple watch for dogs’ Pet owners offered new smart collar to track health and location

At the ongoing Consumer Electronics Show 2022 (CES), Invoxia, a company known for its smart devices that often use GPS, has developed a smart dog collar that can monitor the health of pets and also keep the owners updated with their current location. This device is useful when dog owners are away and helps put their minds at ease by keeping them informed of the whereabouts and wellbeing of their pets at all times.

While GPS pet trackers may not be new, what sets this device apart is that it acts like an Apple Watch for your dog, keeping track of their vital stats like resting heart and respiratory rates.

To achieve this, the Invoxia smart dog collar uses a series of radar sensors that receive the required readings when the collar is worn.

The company has stated it worked with certified veterinary cardiologists to develop a deep learning artificial intelligence (AI).

When combined with the sensors, this AI can take the relevant readings from the neck of your precious pooch.

The smart collar can also track activities like walking, running, sleeping, barking, eating, drinking and even scratching.

The data gathered from this device can also be used by veterinarians to “establish a diagnostic baseline built on objective long-term data.”

Romain Pariaut DVM, DACVIM, DECVIM-CA of the College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell University said: “For dogs suffering from heart disease, structured home-based care programs that include continuous monitoring of respiratory and heart rate while attending to appetite and ideal body weight are encouraged.

“A higher than normal resting respiratory rate is one of the most pertinent indicators of impending heart failure.”

Unfortunately, this collar is only available for medium to large-sized dogs.

Invoxia said that this is because they’ve had difficulty shrinking the size of the collar due to the sensors being used.

The tracked activities and health data from the data are synchronised to a companion app on your smartphone, with neat charts and graphics.

The collar supports Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, GPS and LTE connectivity, which allows the owner to remotely monitor their dog’s health and activities.
