Being aware of Queen’s humorous side, Meghan’s first-ever festive gift to the monarch led her soon to be grandmother-in-law to burst out with laughter. The Duchess of Sussex, 40, present moved a step beyond as it not only made Her Majesty chuckle but also could have delighted some of the Queen's beloved four-legged friends.

Meghan, who at the time had just recently got engaged to Prince Harry, bought the Queen a singing hamster.

The 95-year-old monarch is reported to have said: “It can keep my dogs company.”

The Queen currently has three dogs, two corgis and one dorgi.

The dorgi called Candy is her eldest canine, who is believed to have been around for at least 10 years.

The Queen herself is credited with creating the dorgi, which is a mix between the corgi and dachshund.

Her Majesty is all set to enjoy a ‘new normal’ Christmas this year and may even appear in public for the first time since early autumn, after receiving the go-ahead from her doctors.

The 95-year-old monarch has either been resting or undertaking only “light” desk duties following a health scare earlier this year.

COVID-19 restrictions ensured last year's Christmas celebrations were held away from the Queen's Norfolk estate.

Her Majesty and late husband Prince Philip instead were forced to spend Christmas together at Windsor.

According to the Royal Family website, the decision to stay at her Berkshire home was the first time the Queen opted to spend Christmas at Windsor since 1987.

However, during Meghan's first Sandringham Christmas, the Duchess also managed to impress some other members of the Firm with yet another quirky story.

The former Suits actress also managed to crack a joke with her future brother-in-law, Prince William, with her gift choices.

According to the biography Finding Freedom, she nailed his gift, which was a spoon with the words “Cereal Killer” on it.

The authors wrote: “Meghan's biggest challenge was finding the perfect novelty gifts to amuse her new extended family.

“At least one of her gifts was a huge hit—a spoon for William that had 'cereal killer' embossed on the shallow bowl end of the utensil.”
