YONG PENG: A downpour on Sunday (July 18) morning did not deter residents from getting their Covid-19 vaccination here.
Transport Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong said there were 998 appointments at the Yong Peng Covid-19 vaccination centre (PPV) on its first day of operation.
"Despite the heavy rain, those with an appointment still came to get their vaccination.
"As of 10am, about 100 people have gotten their jabs, with the oldest individual aged 99 years old.
"This is just the first day and I am confident that the team here will be able to ease into it and make the flow even smoother.
"This PPV is quite big, with the capacity to deliver 2,000 doses a day," he said on Sunday (July 18) after visiting the PPV at the Yong Peng Che Ann Khor Moral Uplifting Society grounds.
He said the first few days of the PPV would see more senior citizens receiving their first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine.
Dr Wee, who is also Ayer Hitam MP, added that feedback gathered from individuals showed satisfaction with the service given and urged the some 200 medical staff and volunteers at the PPV to keep up the good work.
He said there were 20 injection stations at the PPV as well as designated pre- and post-jab waiting areas.
