KUALA LUMPUR: A drug syndicate operating in the city has been crippled with the seizure of stockpiles worth over RM1mil.

City deputy police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Yong Lei Choo said raids were conducted after the police uncovered a drug distribution ring operating in Brickfields.

“On Oct 19, an operation dubbed Ops Shadow was carried out in four locations, including two premises that had been turned into drug stockpiles.

“Two raids were conducted at a residency in Jalan Bukit Palma, leading to one arrest,” she told a press conference yesterday.

DCP Yong said two other raids were carried out at another residency in Bangi and a house in Seri Kembangan.

She said investigations showed that the syndicate rented luxury residences to be used as a storehouse for drugs.

“Rent was between RM1,200 and RM1,800 monthly.

“During the raids, we seized 25.27kg of suspected methamphetamine and 20.66kg of suspected heroin.

“The estimated value of the seized drugs is RM1,174,200,” she said, adding that a 31-year-old suspect had been remanded until Oct 26.

DCP Yong said background checks showed the suspect had no prior records but tested positive for THC (tetrahydrocannabinol). RM60,520 in cash was also seized during the raids.

“We believe the syndicate has been active over the last two months and the drugs are primarily for the Klang Valley,” she said.
