       DURIAN season is here and farmers are being encouraged to market their fruits on social media to further improve sales, Berita Harian reported.

       Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority deputy director-general of operations Mohamad Mustahapa Awang said the season’s durians are now coming to the market in Johor, with several other states expected to follow suit.

       He urged farmers to use social media to market their products, especially during the durian season’s peak period.

       “This season, we expect more than 405,000 tonnes of various types of durian, such as Musang King, D24, Tekka, Udang Merah, IOI and several others to be sold locally and for export.

       “The production of durian this year is expected to nearly match that of several years ago and will go up in future when more orchards and farms start to produce,” he added.

       > A fisherman managed to save his elder brother before drowning after their boat collided with another vessel in waters off Pulau Pasir Hitam, Perak, Harian Metro reported.

       Mohd Noor Hisham, 35, said his younger brother Mohd Syarif, 25, handed him a life jacket and asked him to jump into the sea after the collision.

       Mohd Syarif then tried to find more life jackets but was eventually trapped in the boat as it sank.

       Mohd Noor and crewmen from the other vessel were adrift in the sea for about two hours before being rescued.

       A search and rescue operation for Mohd Syarif is still ongoing.

       > Singer and actress Farahdhiya collaborated with Korean artiste DL for her new single Tewas, Berita Harian also reported.

       Farahdhiya, 37, said the song is sung in three languages: Malay, English and Korean.

       The singer, who was born in Sarzana, Italy, said DL taught her how to pronounce Korean words correctly as the language was new to her.
