SIBU: An eight-year-old girl in Serian has succumbed to Covid-19 while a total of 2,522 new cases were reported in Sarawak on Sunday (Aug 29).
There was only one new case reported from the Kaman Cluster in Bau. A total of 67 people in the community had previously tested positive for the virus.
The state Disaster Management Committee in a statement said the girl was among the two deaths reported.
"The girl was tested positive for Covid-19 on Aug 21. She was admitted to Hospital Serian but passed away today. The victim had no known illness," it said.
The other death involved a 59-year-old man in Sibu who was tested positive on Aug 23. The man suffered from other comorbidities such as gout, diabetes, dyslipidemia and chronic kidney failure.
"Of the 2,522 cases, 2,520 or 99.92% were Category One and Two cases while there was one Category Three case," it said.
Kuching district continued to record four-digit cases at 1,316 while those with three-digit cases were Serian (250), Bau (179) and Sibu (157).
A total of 16 districts reported two-digit cases while 15 districts had one-digit case.
Cumulatively the number of cases stands at 112,245.
