KOTA KINABALU: More Sabah districts have recorded new Covid-19 cases following the long holiday break.
Sabah Covid-19 spokesman Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said 39 new infections were detected in the past 24 hours statewide, one more compared to the day before.
Masidi said although there have been no infection surges, nine out of 10 districts that detected new cases had no new infections the day before.
“There are only nine districts that did not detect any new infection in the last 24 hours compared to 16 yesterday,” he said, in his early Covid-19 analysis on Tuesday (May 10).
He said the state capital recorded the highest new cases at 11, followed by Lahad Datu (six) and Ranau (three).
He added that 17 districts detected one new infection each while the nine districts that did not record any new cases were Beluran, Kalabakan, Keningau, Kinabatangan, Kota Belud, Pitas, Sandakan, Semporna and Tongod.
A total of 36 out the 39 patients are in Categories 1 and 2, one in Category 4 and two patients in Category 5.
Masidi had previously said the rising number of infections was to be expected due to the twin celebrations of Hari Raya and the Kaamatan festival which is celebrated throughout May.
