IPOH: The Perak Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs has warned egg traders, suppliers and producers against profiteering.

State consumerism committee chairman Datuk Abdul Yunus Jamahri said some 83 notices had been issued to relevant parties to standardise their pricing while 12 anti-profiteering notices were issued to traders to lower their prices to a reasonable amount.

"The Ministry is reminding all traders to be responsible to ensure there are sufficient supplies for consumers and at reasonable prices.

"Any individuals or companies found disobeying the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act can have legal action taken against them," he said in a statement on Wednesday (Nov 24) adding that periodic checks would be made on traders, wholesalers and 11 main egg-producing companies in the state.

Abdul Yunus was commenting on a report that prices of chicken eggs had increased.

He also said that the price hike was due to an increase in the cost of chicken feed.

"It is undeniable that the several traders have increased the prices of chicken eggs since early October.

"Eggs for all Grade A, B and C have increased by three sen and are now sold at 47 sen, 45 sen and 43 sen respectively," he said.

"We will work with other relevant agencies like the Veterinary Services Department to resolve this issue," he added.
