Health Ministry: Covid-19 vaccination not an excuse to postpone surgeries

PETALING JAYA: Vaccination should not be the reason to postpone any surgical procedure and vice versa, said the Health Ministry.

In an educational video shared on Twitter and Facebook, it said any impending surgical procedure should not be an excuse for anyone not to get jabbed.

“There is no scientific evidence stating or linking the use of anaesthetics with adverse effects in individuals or patients given Covid-19 vaccines, ” it said.

For elective or planned surgeries, patients can reschedule their surgery dates if they have received a vaccination appointment.

“This is to ensure full coverage from two doses of the vaccine when in the hospital later during the scheduled surgery, ” said the Ministry

As for emergency surgeries, the ministry reiterated that the vaccine received prior to that is also not a reason to delay the surgical procedure.

“Vaccination is not a reason to postpone any surgical procedure, which, in turn, is also not an excuse not to receive the Covid-19 vaccine injection, ” it added.
