KUALA LUMPUR: The 68th MCA annual general meeting concluded ahead of schedule to facilitate disaster relief works in flooded areas of the Klang Valley.
Considering the worsening floods in numerous areas nationwide, MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong proposed that the AGM conclude earlier at 1.30pm Sunday (Dec 19).
All MCA members were also instructed to actively engage in disaster relief upon returning from the meeting.
Dr Wee said the Crisis Relief Squad of MCA (CRSM) has begun relief work on the ground to assist flood victims.
''The CRSM in each state will work with related agencies to render help to those who need it," he said.
Dr Wee, who is also the Transport Minister, said the Ministry will leave it to the relevant agencies to issue emergency response notices in view of the flood situation.
''In fact, RapidKL has done it, announcing the updated bus schedule and route change.
''We cannot wait for a meeting to decide – this is an emergency response,'' he told the press after the AGM.
He also said that Saturday (Dec 18) was the 15th day of the lunar calendar and the next few days are expected to see high tides and more rain.
''I urge everyone to be careful and stay vigilant,'' he added.
