ABOUT 50 students from 15 Tamil schools in Pahang took part in an online “kick-ups” competition showcasing their football skills, Makkal Osai reported.

In the boys category, Jai Harish Prakash from SJK (T) Bandar Indera Mahkota emerged the winner while Robin Rahman from SJK (T) Ladang Boh 2 and Thaniswaran Santhakumar from SJK (T) Raub came in second and third.

Deepika Ramesh from the Indera Mahkota Tamil school won in the girls category, making it a double for the school as her schoolmate Shashina Jacob came in second.

Third was Kirthika Nanthakumaran from SJK (T) Ladang Tekal.

Sungai Tekal Tamil school headmistress Tamilselvi Vettarayan said the school closures have left little room for students to engage in physical activity or sports, especially team sports such as football.

The schools came together to organise the competition to help motivate the students and keep their skills sharp, and are now considering making it a recurring event, she said.

The winning pupils will receive cash prizes and certificates, she added.
