Violence erupted between police and protesters after a mob blocked a coach sent to collect migrants bound for the Bibby Stockholm barge. Scores of people blocked the vehicle in Peckham this morning, surrounding it on all sides, with police deployed to break up the demonstration. The Met Police said officers made 45 arrests.
Met Police Deputy Assistant Commissioner Ade Adelekan said it saddened him greatly to say a number of officers were assaulted when they had been seeking to uphold the law.
Footage shared online showed angry clashes in which one man was bundled into a police van and another thrown to the ground.
